Our 40th meetup was a deep dive into Bitcoin mining. We traced the evolution of mining hardware from early CPUs through GPUs to modern ASICs, explored open-source mining projects, and got a live S9 miner demo. We also discussed the Heat Punk Summit — a growing movement focused on reusing Bitcoin mining heat for home and commercial heating — and what open-source mining means for the decentralization of hash rate.
The first 30 minutes were for socializing over pizza and drinks before diving into the mining-heavy agenda.
The Western Mass Bitcoin Meetup is on a mission to find and connect bitcoiners in the area and has been growing quickly. We are interested in spreading education, increasing local merchant adoption and hanging out with bitcoiners. We meet once a month and all are welcome to come and talk bitcoin.
If you are new, we have members who can help you level up your knowledge related to self-custody, lightning, mining and many other areas.
